Gatlinburg Nationals

Jamfest Nationals: December 3-4, 2011

The first weekend in December marked our biggest competition EVER...
Jamfest Nationals!

The Flygirls worked SO hard...
They had practice every day, including SATURDAYS!

Our awesome choreographers,
Travis & Kaitlin,
even came to help us out!

The girls competed HARD for two days, and finally, it was time for AWARDS....
We all waited nervously only to find out....

All our hard work REALLY paid off!

The HMS Flygirls are now
NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
in both hip hop and kick
for their division!

(We also had a pretty fun weekend in Gatlinburg together!)

These girls REALLY have come together as a team,
and have gotten so good at
SUPPORTING,
MOTIVATING,
and ENCOURAGING each other!

Way to go, Flygirls!
EVERYONE is SO proud of you all!

End of the football season!

The Flygirls had a great time
dancing sidelines and cheering on
their ALMOST UNDEFEATED
Hunter Hawks football team
this season!
The football team had a great season,
making it to the championship game vs. Loftis Middle,
who only NARROWLY beat those mighty Hawks!

Dance Camp!

The 2011-12 HMS Flygirls Dancers
had a FANTASTIC time at MA Dance Camp
from July 6-8 at
Georgia State University in Atlanta!

DAY ONE

We started BRIGHT & EARLY,
meeting at school at 6A.M.
The girls were tired, but ready to go!
We loaded up the cars and were on the road by 6:30A.M.!

We arrived at camp, ate some lunch, checked into our dorm rooms,
and got ready
to get our day started!
The girls were all very excited and eager to start learning routines.
The girls learned two dances after lunch on the first day,
a hip hop dance and a pom dance!
They worked hard and then went to dinner.

On the way back,
a couple of our third year dancers
claimed their own "little sisters!"
When we got back, we had a little bit of down time,
and then got together for some team building activities
and camp games!
After games, the girls went back and practiced until about 9:30P.M.
We went upstairs and got ready for lights out by 10:30P.M.,
since day two would start at 6A.M.!

DAY TWO

We chose Cheyenne to carry our spirit stick,
since she was the first one out and ready on the second day!

The girls were excited to get day two started,
but were a little sleepier than the first day!
The girls started off by getting really warmed up and stretched,
because they would be learning and dancing LOTS more
than the day before!
The girls learned three routines on day two,
which included a lyrical jazz dance,
a pep rally hip hop dance,
and our custom kick line routine!

They were EXHAUSTED,
but still got together and worked hard
during their team building games at the end of the day!

DAY THREE

Day three started off with a very tired group of girls!

After dancing and moving from 6:30A.M. to 10P.M. for two days in a row,
they were feeling a little less peppy,
but were still troopers, ready and eager to learn their final routine,
and compete their hip hop in Grand Champions
at the end of the day!

We chose Courtney to carry the spirit stick on day three,
because of her hard work and positive attitude!
Our returning 8th graders learned a SUPER HARD (level FOUR!)
lyrical dance, while the rest of the team learned another
hip hop routine.

Before lunch, they were sure to get a picture with their camp instructors,
Sarah ("Starky"), Allie, and Sarah Kercho!
We headed back to the dorms after lunch to start packing,
change, and practice for the final Grand Champions competition.
Before we headed up, we were sure to pose for a picture
with our cute camp bags!
The girls all changed into their new teal tanks
and jazz pants
and practiced before heading down to the Grand Championships!
Several girls won ribbons throughout camp,
and Caitlyn was awarded a medal on day three
for her hard work, positive attitude,
and great dancing all three days!

The girls were also sure to get a photo with their new friends,
the awesome dancers from Ramsey High School
in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Flygirls performed their hip hop dance
from day one to "She Hot,"
and did a great job!
They were able to celebrate by bringing home
a Superior Team Trophy from camp!
The HMS Flygirls did great, and look forward to sharing
all their new routines from camp
this season at HMS football and basketball games!

****The HMS Flygirls Dancers want to send out a HUGE
thank you to our assistant coach, Angi Thomas,
andour official team "big sister,"
Alanna Thomas,
for all their help and support during camp!
We also want to thank our "Fly Moms"
who went on the trip with us,
Rhonda Johnson, Susan Lemon, Tiffany Scruggs, and
Edee Sloan!
We have an AWESOME support system, and
could not do anything without you all!****
Thank you! We love you all!

Hip Hop Camp

First, I have to say, as their coach,
I could not be MORE PROUD of this
HARD WORKING
group of girls!

The 2011-12 FLYGIRLS have been
killing it this week learning their new
competition hip hop routine!

And while I'd love to share the video
of this AMAZING choreography,
I have to keep it a secret!
We don't want anyone to see it until competition time!

Until then, know that these girls have a
FANTASTIC routine
that they are going to work hard on and perfect!

Thank you so very much to our WONDERFUL
choreographers,
Travis & Kaitlin!

You guys are ROCK STARS!

We LOVE YOU and THANK YOU so much for working with us!

Love,
The HMS Flygirls Dancers

The Flygirls got 3rd place!

I could not be MORE PROUD
of these hard-working young ladies right now!

Last year, we started our team...
the very first dance team Hunter Middle School
had ever had.

We entered a competition, and came in
5th out of 5.
Yep, last place.

But we didn't let us get that down!
We knew it was our first competition,
and looked at it as a
CHALLENGE to do better,
instead of letting it defeat us!

And because of that, these girls
were DETERMINED this year.

So this Saturday, we competed in the
very same competition that we placed last in last year,
and got a 3rd PLACE TROPHY!

That's 3rd place out of five teams!

As their coach, I am SO VERY PROUD of these ladies!
Way to work it, Flygirls!

You are ROCKSTARS!

Love,
Coach Baker

Here is a video of their
AMAZING PERFORMANCE!
