It's TRYOUT time! Eek! :)

Next week is TRYOUT WEEK for the HMS Flygirls' 2013-14 team!

This is one of the most exciting (and nerve-racking) times for these girls,
so here are a few quick reminders (and tips) for a successful tryout week!

1. Remember to turn in ALL of your forms on Monday! You cannot tryout without them!
(3rd Qtr. grade reports, sports physicals, proofs of residence, application, and parental consent forms)

2. Remember to arrive ON TIME for tryout clinics and tryouts!
(Clinics are Mon., May 6- Wed., May 8 from 4:15-5:45 PM in the gym;
Tryouts are Thurs., May 9 from 4:15-approximately 6:15PM in the band room.)

3. Practice your routines after the clinics each day when they're fresh on your mind!
(Coach Baker will e-mail everyone the music after Monday's clinic.)

4. To go an extra step, write down all of your choreography to help you remember even better!

5. Even better than all of that... write down the routines AND practice with a FRIEND!
Everything is more fun with a friend! :)

6. Make sure to get lots of sleep, eat healthy foods, and breathe A LOT during tryout week!

7. Don't forget to eat a snack before clinics and tryouts, and make sure to bring your water with you!

8. Make sure you are dressed appropriately and leave your phones off during tryouts and clinics.

9. Don't forget to check the calendar and the Facebook page for the OFFICIAL team list on Friday,
and check both often for important info and dates!

10. Most importantly... have a BLAST! Dancing is hard work, but it is also SUPER fun!
Don't let stress get the best of you. Enjoy this week, do your best, and no matter what,
you will feel PROUD of yourself.

The HMS Flygirls is not just a TEAM... we are a FAMILY.
Thank you for your interest in and support of this team,
and we wish you the VERY BEST OF LUCK
as we begin yet another tryout week, and enter our 5th season!

Go FLYGIRLS!

DANCE for a Cure!

Last year, the HMS Flygirls decided to make it a tradition to "dance for a cure" and participate as a team in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

As a coach, I feel it is important for the girls not only to learn to work together as a team, but also to learn to work together to represent their school and help others through charitable deeds.

This time last year, my dad's oldest sister was fighting a battle with breast cancer. Last October, she lost her battle. Recently, a friend of mine was also diagnosed with breast cancer. So personally, this cause is very close to my heart.

So, I would like to invite you to join our 5k walking team at our second annual "dance for a cure," as we walk in the 2012 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, September 30, 2012.

If you cannot participate, would you please help us and donate on our behalf through our team?

Please follow the instructions below to find our team fundraising site:
1. Go to: http://www.komenchattanooga.org/komen-race-for-the-cure/teams/
2. Click “Join an existing team.”
3. Either type in the team name “Hunter Middle Flygirls” OR find the company name “Hunter Middle School”
4. Click “Hunter Middle Flygirls Dance Team” (in blue) when it shows up from your search.
5. You will then be on our team page, where you can either click, “Donate to this team,” or “Join Hunter Middle Flygirls Dance Team.”

Thank you so much for your time, and for helping us as we "dance for a cure!"

 All the Best,
Coach Baker

Dance Camp!

The 2011-12 HMS Flygirls Dancers
had a FANTASTIC time at MA Dance Camp
from July 6-8 at
Georgia State University in Atlanta!

DAY ONE

We started BRIGHT & EARLY,
meeting at school at 6A.M.
The girls were tired, but ready to go!
We loaded up the cars and were on the road by 6:30A.M.!

We arrived at camp, ate some lunch, checked into our dorm rooms,
and got ready
to get our day started!
The girls were all very excited and eager to start learning routines.
The girls learned two dances after lunch on the first day,
a hip hop dance and a pom dance!
They worked hard and then went to dinner.

On the way back,
a couple of our third year dancers
claimed their own "little sisters!"
When we got back, we had a little bit of down time,
and then got together for some team building activities
and camp games!
After games, the girls went back and practiced until about 9:30P.M.
We went upstairs and got ready for lights out by 10:30P.M.,
since day two would start at 6A.M.!

DAY TWO

We chose Cheyenne to carry our spirit stick,
since she was the first one out and ready on the second day!

The girls were excited to get day two started,
but were a little sleepier than the first day!
The girls started off by getting really warmed up and stretched,
because they would be learning and dancing LOTS more
than the day before!
The girls learned three routines on day two,
which included a lyrical jazz dance,
a pep rally hip hop dance,
and our custom kick line routine!

They were EXHAUSTED,
but still got together and worked hard
during their team building games at the end of the day!

DAY THREE

Day three started off with a very tired group of girls!

After dancing and moving from 6:30A.M. to 10P.M. for two days in a row,
they were feeling a little less peppy,
but were still troopers, ready and eager to learn their final routine,
and compete their hip hop in Grand Champions
at the end of the day!

We chose Courtney to carry the spirit stick on day three,
because of her hard work and positive attitude!
Our returning 8th graders learned a SUPER HARD (level FOUR!)
lyrical dance, while the rest of the team learned another
hip hop routine.

Before lunch, they were sure to get a picture with their camp instructors,
Sarah ("Starky"), Allie, and Sarah Kercho!
We headed back to the dorms after lunch to start packing,
change, and practice for the final Grand Champions competition.
Before we headed up, we were sure to pose for a picture
with our cute camp bags!
The girls all changed into their new teal tanks
and jazz pants
and practiced before heading down to the Grand Championships!
Several girls won ribbons throughout camp,
and Caitlyn was awarded a medal on day three
for her hard work, positive attitude,
and great dancing all three days!

The girls were also sure to get a photo with their new friends,
the awesome dancers from Ramsey High School
in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Flygirls performed their hip hop dance
from day one to "She Hot,"
and did a great job!
They were able to celebrate by bringing home
a Superior Team Trophy from camp!
The HMS Flygirls did great, and look forward to sharing
all their new routines from camp
this season at HMS football and basketball games!

****The HMS Flygirls Dancers want to send out a HUGE
thank you to our assistant coach, Angi Thomas,
andour official team "big sister,"
Alanna Thomas,
for all their help and support during camp!
We also want to thank our "Fly Moms"
who went on the trip with us,
Rhonda Johnson, Susan Lemon, Tiffany Scruggs, and
Edee Sloan!
We have an AWESOME support system, and
could not do anything without you all!****
Thank you! We love you all!

Hip Hop Camp

First, I have to say, as their coach,
I could not be MORE PROUD of this
HARD WORKING
group of girls!

The 2011-12 FLYGIRLS have been
killing it this week learning their new
competition hip hop routine!

And while I'd love to share the video
of this AMAZING choreography,
I have to keep it a secret!
We don't want anyone to see it until competition time!

Until then, know that these girls have a
FANTASTIC routine
that they are going to work hard on and perfect!

Thank you so very much to our WONDERFUL
choreographers,
Travis & Kaitlin!

You guys are ROCK STARS!

We LOVE YOU and THANK YOU so much for working with us!

Love,
The HMS Flygirls Dancers
